Artificer by Moonlight
Meet Austin, AKA: Artificer by Moonlight
About: My name is Austin, and I am an LGBTQ+ freelance artist from Okotoks, Alberta, currently living in Calgary. I was always an artsy kid and graduated from the Alberta High School of Fine Arts with honors back in 2009. I used to spend most of my free time drawing, sewing, or painting miniatures, but over these past few years I have been fully obsessed with the seemingly limitless potentials of crochet. While I can still be commissioned for all of those other artforms, my primary focus for this business is crochet, particularly the more advanced and time-consuming projects.

In 2024, I placed 2nd in the Wearables category at the Calgary Stampede with a Feather Wings Shawl (Pattern by Crafty Intentions). In 2025, I managed to place 1st in Toys with a Noodle Dragon (also Crafty Intentions). Speaking of Crafty Intentions, I am honored to be a moderator of the groups on Facebook, Reddit, and Discord. Megan Lapp and the other moderators have been truly inspirational and wonderful. If it wasn't for that community, I wouldn't be anywhere near as motivated as I am now, and certainly not as good at crochet!

My greatest joy currently is attending local markets and seeing the smiles and looks of wonder from the community!

Lil' FreakZ
Meet Alex, AKA: Lil' FreakZ
About: Hey there, I’m Alex! This is my first market ever and I’m excited to show off what I make! I’ve stuck my fingers in many pots over the years; making balms and oils, jewellery of bone and stone, various sculptures incorporating found objects and more recently making horror masks, blockprint patches and giving new life to old clothes by ‘wrecking’ them. I love pretty much anything to do with horror with my favourite films/media landing in the early 90’s-2010’s. You can expect fun horror/strange fabric patches and bags, some handmade jewellery as well as altered clothes that turn plain thrifts into unique grunge pieces from me! If you like ‘old Hot Topic’ vibes, unique one of a kind clothes or have a penchant for the odd and creepy, stop by my table this August!
